There ain't no Johnny coming home to share a bed with her, and she doesn't care

People of the internets, I need you to clarify something for me. Which of the following two options best fits your definition of a one night stand?

Option 1
A one night stand can be between you and someone you already know, you hook up once, and you might see each other again, but if you do it'll be without doing the nasty.

Option 2
A one night stand is between you and someone you've just met, you do the deed, then go on your separate ways without any sort of plan to see each other again.

  1. they are both one night stands but option number two is the more pure of the two...

  2. Option 2. Option 1 is more like getting sexual tension out of the way, then regretting it the morning after.

  3. Definitely Option 2. Usually a one night stand is with someone you have just met and you are not likely to see again though you don't always know that for sure going in, so to speak.

Option 1 is just one of those things. You try it but decide not to do it again for whatever reason.

Does this mean you had your first one night stand?

    Another female perspective:

#2 is the one night stand

#1 is just hooking up and has the potential to range from nothing to an incredibly awkward situation with stalker potential

  6. both of them are technically one night stands, but option #2 is far better....option #1 rarely turns out well...unless it turns in to a friend with benefits.

  7. Number 2 gets my vote.

    #1 is Friends with Benefits.

  8. it's definitely #2, #1 is just friends with benefits

  9. If you only do the deed once, I say they are both "one night stands" regardless if you know them prior or not.

  14. Both count, but the traditional definition would be the second option, which also tends to be less messy. Usually.

  15. Option #2 has my vote...#1 is just something that happens sometimes (I have several friends who've been in that situation)
