I've been roamin' around always lookin' down on all I see

Somebody recently forwarded me an Amber Alert email for a girl who'd gone missing from somewhere in the mid-west. I didn't pass it on. Does anybody read those anyway? Would you actually remember the face of someone you saw there? Of all the missing kids' pictures that you see, do you really expect to be able to pick one of those faces out of a crowd should you encounter them? Same goes for missing people on milk containers. There are so many of them these days that I don't even look at them anymore. Isn't that something that might have been effective when they first started doing it, but has sort of lost it's ability to do what it's intended to do? Or am I just a dick?

I think that if you knew the child personally....like if they lived down the street, you would recognize them immediately. I think for that reason the milk cartons might help, but I agree, the rest of us won't remember the face. I see alot of pictures on the bulletin board at Walmart. Sometimes I look just to see if I recognize a face.

If I meet someone and then see them in different clothes, I don't recognize them again. :0+

You're just a dick.

FYI...most kids that are kidnapped don't know that they have been kidnapped, because they are usually with a family member...
Hence the milk cartons. Sometimes a child recognizes themself and will look into it further.

I completely agree with you-- which is why I'm always shocked when a little kid gets recognized in a shopping mall or something. Remember that girl who got kidnapped by an FLDS loony? She was recognized and found.

You may want to forward the emails anyway-- but only to the ladies. It'll make you seem like a nice, sensitive guy.

Delirious and Nene, have I ever told you about the time I introduced myself to a guy and he said, "I know. You were my TA last semester."?

E of S, I guess that makes sense. I have a feeling that if I ever kidnap my kids, they'll know they've been kidnapped.

BSH, that's very It's-Always-Sunny-In-Philadelphia-esque.

I tend to agree with most of what you say here and I hope to God that doesn't make me a dick, but if even one kid gets found through any of those methods then it's worth it. I'm guessing if it were one of your own you would try anything and everything available to you to get them back.

So you're a dick. But on the bright side, so are all your readers.

I never remember names or faces. I'm pretty sure its a defense mechanism.

Granted, you ARE a dick... but also, lots of kids get found because someone (who obviously has a better memory than mine) does recognize them. However, from me it isn't likely since I cannot even remember my own childrens' names and birthdays without extensive thought. Good thing not everyone is like me!!

i NEVER would remember that shit. not because i don't pay attention, but because i pay too much attention to little details.

but i am sure there are people out there that would see that and then find the child. i would see a child in real life and be distracted by his or her bizarre eyebrows.

I've never received one of these emails, but I am terrible with faces anyway, so I doubt I would be much help. It seems like a tough gig, but then again, I see no harm in trying by sending them out there in Cyberspace.

I think you're supposed to handle it like Dog The Bounty Hunter, and walk around with the pic in your hand until you find the person.

Yeah.
