Grandma take me home

Two days ago was my grandmother's 92nd birthday. I'm a horrible grandson, and never call, but figured I'd better because you never know how many more chances you'll get. Normally I run out of things to say to her after about five minutes, but this conversation lasted almost a half hour. Here's an excerpt:

Grandma: Do you have a girlfriend?

Me: Well, there's a girl I've been dating, but I don't really know what to call her at this point. I can't really call her my girlfriend because we haven't had that conversation yet, even though we've been seeing each other off and on for about a year and a half.

Grandma: Well, it doesn't really matter what you call her as long as you like to spend time together.

Me: Yeah, we do.

Grandma: And if it ever gets to the point where you ask her, don't do it like [Grandpa] did with me.

Me: How was that?

Grandma: One day he asked me, "What would you say if I asked you to marry me?" I just said, "Wouldn't you like to know?"

Me: That's funny.

Grandma: Well, I just thought it was a stupid thing to ask a girl. He didn't deserve to get a straight answer if he was going to ask like that.

Troll: Big surprise treat. We're going to a place called Samson's Island for the weekend. It's beautiful. Good fishing too.

Future Mrs. Troll: Cool. I've heard of that place. You should ask me to marry you there. I'll prolly say "Yes".

Troll: BITCH! (not aloud).

Exposition: There's a place called "Proposal Rock" on Samson's Island. It looks something like a man on one-knee proposing if you're drunk and imaginative enough.

Epilogue: She did say "Yes".

Grandma sounds like she could kick some serious ass if she needed to.

Boxer: I found a ring and it's really pretty. Maybe we should go look at it together?

Mr.Boxer: I guess you would be mad if I said NO?

Boxer: To getting Married?????

Mr. Boxer: No, to looking at the ring.

And that's my proposal story.

For the record, it's clear the apple didn't fall far from the Minnow Tree, because you're alike like your Grandfather.

She could kick some serious ass but she never had to. She had my three brothers and me in five years (yup 4 boys in 5 years) so she had her hands full. She was 5'2" and 140 pounds and tougher than rawhide.

My younger brother wrestled for the state championship in high school and has since been inducted into the wrestling hall of fame. I took second in the nationals while I was in college. That information is just included to let you know we weren't a bunch of pushovers.

When my Mother (Native's grandmother) wanted us home she would drive down main street in town and go home. We generally beat her there.

One night one of my younger brothers friends asked him "Why don't you just tell your OLD LADY to go to hell?" My brother responded "Have you ever seen my MOTHER pick up a bag of spuds? She picks them up by the ears. That's why I don't tell my MOTHER to go to hell."

Unfortunately she is really tired of being here. She told me a couple of visits ago "Dee Ice make sure you do something in your life that guarantees you won't live this long." Makes me sad that she's had enough.

Sorry to have hogged teh comment page NM but you started it with what you wrote.

Grandma does rock! I LOVE listening to her stories!! She's the most amazing person! I think we are lucky that she is our grandma! I Love reading posts about her from different people in our family I learn so much! I'm going to be really sad when she's not with us anymore!

Your grandma sounds like a wise lady.

My proposal story.....

Have just finished doing the wild thing and laying in the dark trying to catch my breath....

Mr Gypsy: I think we should get married.

Gypsy: Thinks to herself...is that because we just had sex because usually that's not a requirement but says "I'd love to darling".

I'm glad it was dark because the look on my face was probably priceless.
