We drove out to the desert just to lie down beneath this bowl of stars

10 yr old: Dad, which way are we going?

Me: North.

10 yr old: Wait, I thought that way was north.

Me: No, that's east. But to be honest, we're really driving northeast.

4 yr old: No! We're going desert.

I know, I didn't know that desert was a direction either.

or that north isn't really a destination...

Obviously, desert is a direction now. Didn't you know that?

When my youngest was that age, he used to call his ankle his foot elbow.

if you live in the desert, and desert is a direction.....does that mean you live in the Desert (like I live in the South)?

Hmmm....vague attempt at being witty, didn't work out so well. I'll go back to work now.

Anonymous, if you look closely, the question wasn't "where are we going?" it was "which way are we going?" so he wasn't asking for the destination.

Michelle, I think of all the funny things we used to say and it cracks me up (e.g., we used to call the car blinkers dink-donkers because of the noise they made). Kids are great for that kind of thing.

Ver girl, I'm with you, even though your wittiness didn't quite come out as you had hoped ;-)
