I wanna be where nothing needs to matter

What good is having a blog if one can't periodically use his/her readership to settle disputes? I say no good at all. So, I'm turning to you, dear readers. Today you get to tell me who is right, and who is wrong.

Person 1 thinks that there's a double standard when it comes to going into restrooms of the opposite sex. Women can pull it off. Men can't. Any woman who goes into a men's room might make any men in there uneasy, but it makes for a good story for them to tell. Conversely, any man who goes into a women's room is automatically considered a creep, and runs the risk of being arrested.

Person 2 doesn't think a man would be arrested if he went into a women's restroom.

Who is right?

Depends on what he does when he goes in there. He might say, "Oh I'm sorry, I thought this was the men's room." If he just goes in to use the toliet and leaves, I doubt anyone would say anything other than ask him why he's there.
If it happened to me I would tell the guy he was in the wrong room and to leave. If he didn't leave, I would, but I probably wouldn't call a cop unless he was doing something perverted.

I agree and I don't think it's a double-standard - think of it this way, how often does a WOMAN rape a MAN, and how often do MEN rape WOMEN. We're just going off the odds here.

I think it's down right creepy if a man goes into a woman's bathroom.
But when I cleaned my office building, I had to go into the men's locker room and there was a bathroom to the side of the locker room...
The men wouldn't ever shut the door, and I don't know how many times I walked in on someone peeing. And the men don't seem to care. Women do.

I think it would depend on if it was a private bathroom with one stall, or multiple stalls. If it locked from the entry door, I don't think it's a problem either way. (If you gotta go, you gotta go.) However, if there is multiple stalls, it's a little odd. I would never go into a men's bathroom because Men have urinals and you might see something you didn't care to see. At least women's bathrooms don't have anything out in the open. Either way, it's probably not the best idea.

I say no way to both options - I'd never set foot in a men's bathroom if there were men in there.... or more specifically... Strangers. I would use a men's room if it's one of those single stand alone types. The kind at a restaurant that say "Men" and "Women" but it's just two bathrooms?

Good music today, Minnow.

maybe not arrested but certainly asked to get the fuck out of the establishment.....I have done this for both sexes......

Silly Minnow...They make movies about this all the time. It starts with two girls in nice little schoolgirl outfits in the ladies room. (In some stories they are good girls putting on their makeup and in others they are bad girls who are smoking)
Then the "guy" comes in and....

...Let's just say he never gets arrested.

You're a lot closer to the truth than your friend, although I've been in a women's restroom and there were no screams that weren't intended. Ha.

IN general, a man walks into the women's room and I imagine it's a matter of screams and yelling and if police are nearby, then you're going down.

Here in California they have normal bathrooms, but they also have one that either man or woman can go in. This is for families who might want to go in to the restroom for their children, or say...the person who is going through a sex change and isnt' sure which bathroom they should go in. ;)

Oh..and maybe you will really have a field day with this, but there have been times when I was at a gas station, and desparate for a bathroom. The men's room door was open and no one was in it, so I locked the door and used it. (I learned this from Grandma A.) But frankly, I have to be pretty desparate to do that because men's bathrooms are gross.

I say no man walks into a woman's bathroom on accident and is therefore going in for one reason only which is to perve himself out. And if a woman walked into a men's restroom I'm pretty sure 99% of men would welcome it. Definitely a double standard.

I was at a BYU football game and during half-time the women's bathroom line is exceptionally long...I was doing my business in the men's bathroom and several women came in to use it...It was kind of odd, and at first I thought I was in the wrong bathroom, but no one freaked out or called the police, or even said anything to them...I should have at least said, "Hey baby, do you come here often..." :)

Person 1, no question. Okay, I think it does depend on whether there are any women in the women's restroom when the man enters. (And I didn't read the other comments, so that may have been addressed already!)

There is clearly a double standard. I go into the men's room anytime the ladies' line is out the door. I meet all kinds of nice people, but as soon as a man makes a tiny mistake and goes in the girls' room, there are screams and exclamations of disapproval. I hope this helps, gentle author ;-)
