At every occasion I'll be ready for a funeral

Last week, one of my best friends lost his mother. Her funeral was on Saturday. I debated long and hard about whether I was too busy to go, then realized that it shouldn't matter how busy I am, some things have to be more important than anything else. Close friends fall into that category, so I went. I'm glad I did.

A few observations from the weekend:

- The good ones always seem to leave us too early.

- Cancer is a bitch.

- There is absolutely nothing you can say to console someone who has just lost their mother.

- Ditto for someone who has just lost the love of their life.

- My way of dealing with grief is to try and laugh it off (sometimes it works, sometimes it makes me look like a jerk).

- It's good to see old friends, even if it is at a funeral.

sorry to hear about your friends mom. And good for you for making the decision to go. All of your observations are good ones.

By the way, using the funeral to get out of a speeding ticket? Shameless. :)

I'm glad you went, too. I echo all your observations, and her is one more- your friends have such pretty and nice wives, and adorable children!

I do think the love that family shows for each other will get them through this, also. They have a very loving and close family. Of course, that also makes their mother's death even harder to cope with.

I agree with those observations too and I am sorry for your friends loss. I'm sure they really appreciated your being there.

I've been to two funerals this year and both times I caught up with a lot of people I haven't seen in decades. I like to think that the departed would have enjoyed seeing people get together again because of them.

i'm sorry about your friend's mom that is hard, and i do the same thing when it comes to humor, i find that it also has the side benefit of shocking people too which is always kind of fun

I wish I could have been there! But unfortunately I am flat broke...and I also had to work, all the other people were out of town. :( I feel really sorry for their family!
