Born on a desert floor you've got the deepest thirst

I spent the bulk of Friday night out at the dry lake bed. Unlike last time, we didn't have a good old fashioned book burning, but we did have fun, even if we were killing diapause eubranchiopod embryos.

Here's what the carnage looked like:

Fire is cool.

FIRE IS COOL!!! Even after as many years (38) as I have spent in wildland fire suppression it is still cool to make fire do what you want it to do so that you can get at it and safely put it out.

I love that part of my job---I have given a lot of my life to get good at putting it out but the part I have loved the most is lighting it up to make it go where you want it to go.

Although it doesn't always do that!!!!!!!!!

I also forgot to say that all fire folk talk about fire like it is a living, breathing, thinking, plotting thing---it isn't but it sure feels like it when you do something and the fire does something unexpected and takes your break away---then you do something else and it does something else and different than expected---it goes on all the time and it feels good when you finally put one down.....
